Tanjong Katong Secondary School 2024 Pure Chemistry Weighted Assessment 2

This is the short summary of the Prelim Paper Review I've done for

My 3 matrices:

Relevance: 5/10

Insightfulness: 6.5/10

Difficulty: 6.5/10

Overall: 6.5/10

Expectation: 70%

Key questions to consider:

Question 3 - Application of Acid-Base & Salt, Mole calculation

Question 9 - Acid, Base and Salt, Salt Preparation, Experimental Techniques

Short writeup:

The Tanjong Katong Secondary School Pure Chemistry Weighted Assessment 2 draws inspiration from past O level papers and various schools' prelim exams. By incorporating some of the most effective questions from previous years, this assessment provided a significant challenge for many Secondary 3 students due to their limited experience.

While some questions appeared unconventional, others were remarkably insightful, reflecting the learning objectives set by the school. Despite being sourced from past resources, these questions offer valuable learning opportunities, especially for Secondary 3 students preparing for their O levels.

However, the paper does have a notable weakness: the limited scope of its content. For instance, while the mole concept was tested, crucial aspects such as calculations involving concentration and identification of limiting reagents were omitted—key concepts essential for both Pure and Combined Chemistry.

Overall, this paper is fair for a Secondary 3 student and serves as an excellent resource for topical revision in preparation for the O levels. I highly recommend Secondary 4 students use this paper as timed practice, while Secondary 3 students should focus on selectively attempting questions to enhance their understanding.
