Short writeup:

Why the 2024 Xinmin Sec E Math Paper 2 Is More Dangerous Than It Looks

At first glance, the 2024 Xinmin Secondary School E Math Paper 2 appears straightforward. But if you paid attention to the 2023 O-Level trend—specifically the graphing question involving asymptotes—you’ll know things aren’t so simple anymore. Xinmin has followed the same pattern. A graphing question with an asymptote once again caught students off guard, and it’s becoming the new norm across many schools.

That was just the beginning.

The second half of the paper is where things started spiraling. At surface level, these looked like your typical E Math questions. But on closer look, they’re what I call twisted copies. The question format remains, but the input is just different enough to confuse the average student. The twist wasn’t obvious—it was subtle. And that’s what made it dangerous.

Take for example the circle properties question. Most schools train students to prove similar triangles within a circle. This question, however, asked for congruent triangles. To prove congruency, you need side comparisons—which are rare in circle questions. So even students who are good at this topic might find themselves stuck, not because they don't know circle theorems, but because they don't recognize that a different skillset is needed.

In short: this paper isn't just tough—it demands a higher level of insight and question sense.

And here's the truth: doing this paper on your own won’t help most students much. You might get the answer, but you won’t see the real reason why a question like that was asked. You’ll miss the pattern. You won’t know what to watch for in your actual O-Levels. That’s why I recommend this paper only to students who are already clearly above average—or those learning under the right guidance.
