I Tried The 2025 A Level H2 Math Paper 1 ... As a Tutor!

I Tried the 2024 H2 Math A Level Paper… As a Tutor

There has been a lot of discussion online about the 2025 H2 Math A Level paper.

Some students claimed the paper was unusually easy. Others suggested that even students scoring above 85% were awarded a B grade.

Curious about these claims, I decided to test the paper myself.

To make the experiment fair, I simulated a real exam environment and attempted the full H2 Math A Level Paper under timed conditions.

Below is the full breakdown of the challenge.

The Challenge

Rules I set for myself:

  • Attempt the entire H2 Math paper under exam conditions

  • Sit the paper from 8am to 11am, just like the actual A Level exam

  • No notes, no internet

  • Mark the paper afterwards and analyse the mistakes

The goal was simple:

Find out whether this was truly the easiest H2 Math A Level paper.

Getting the Ten-Year Series

Since I did not have the exam paper on hand, I first had to get the Ten-Year Series (TYS) containing the paper.

That meant heading to the bookstore in heavy rain just to start this challenge.

This is documented in the vlog section of the video.

Simulating a Real A Level Exam Day

To replicate the conditions of an actual candidate:

  • Woke up at 6:34am

  • Exercised briefly

  • Ate breakfast

  • Waited in the classroom until 8am

At 8am sharp, the paper began.

Attempting the 2025 H2 Math Paper

For authenticity, I recorded a short unfiltered clip of myself attempting the paper live.

The exam ran for the full 3 hours, just like the actual Singapore A Level H2 Math exam.

My Immediate Thoughts After Finishing

Right after finishing the paper, I recorded my raw reaction.

Some questions were straightforward, but others had subtle traps that could easily cost students marks.

This is something I see very often when teaching H2 Math tuition students.

My Score Reveal

After marking the paper, I revealed my final score - 88%!

Even as a tutor, there were still mistakes.

More importantly, some of these mistakes are exactly the same mistakes many JC students make in exams.

Common Mistakes Students Will Make

From marking the script, here are a few observations:

• Misinterpreting question wording

• Losing marks through careless algebra

• Rushing through seemingly easy questions

• Underestimating the difficulty of later parts

These small mistakes can easily be the difference between an A and a B in H2 Math.

Key questions to consider:

Question 7 - Application of Integration

Question 9 - Maclaurin's Series

Question 11 - Parametric Equations

Is This Really the Easiest H2 Math A Level Paper?

After attempting the paper myself, my conclusion is more nuanced.

While some questions appear straightforward, exam pressure and time constraints change everything.

Students who walk into the paper overconfident may still lose marks through:

  • Careless mistakes

  • Misreading the question

  • Poor time management

This is why exam practice remains crucial for the Singapore A Levels.
