Question 4 - Organic Chemistry

Short writeup:

I hardly am ever a big fan of VJC's H2 Chemistry Prelim Papers. However, this paper stands out as the go-to paper for topical revision. In other words, it is amazing as preparation for Weighted Assessments.

This paper is from 2011 and in that era of exam papers, prelim papers have tendecies to base a question on a topic where the question is almost solely focused on testing a student's ability in a particular topic. There will be minimal reference to other H2 Chemistry topics or application of context.

Hence, this paper will be great for revision of topical weighted assessments because students can focus on topical mastery and not be distracted.

Furthermore, the questions highlighted are largely JC2 topics that most students would struggle for competency in. At the same time, the questions are set at an above average level of difficulty which makes it more appropriate for exam preparation rather than basic mastery.

However, this paper's weakness is also it's strength - the high level of focus on topics. This paper pales in comparion to its counterparts in terms of utility as a simulation for A level. Current day A level H2 Chemistry papers are largely contextualized with many concepts from various topics coming together to form a question. It is more holistics in terms of assessment.

Hence, this paper is amazing for topical revision but not for timed practice.
