Short writeup:

The 2022 Raffles Institution (RI) H2 Math promo paper offers a familiar landscape for JC1 students across Singapore. Covering common topics taught in most junior colleges, this paper presents a well-rounded challenge, but with few surprises for students who have kept up with their studies.

For many students, the 2022 RI H2 Math paper will feel like a typical JC1 promotional exam. Most of the questions are straightforward and reflective of the kind of exercises practiced in tutorial worksheets and past prelim papers. While there are a few that require deeper thought, none stand out as particularly tricky or serve as an anchor question designed to stretch the top students.

Though the paper lacks a major anchor question, there are still minor learning points to extract. Some questions include small but important details that could easily trip students up if they are not paying attention. However, these subtle challenges will only cost a few marks—nothing that would make or break the overall performance of a student who has prepared adequately.

For students who have been consistently putting in the effort throughout JC1, this paper offers a fair test of their abilities. Those who have done their due diligence should be able to pass easily, while diligent students who have worked hard can expect to score an A. Overall, this paper is best used as a final timed practice in preparation for the actual promotional exams. It’s a great way to build confidence and fine-tune time management skills without overwhelming yourself with overly complex or tricky problems.
