GUIDE TO IMPROVING IN PHYSICS TODAY

Updated: Apr 19, 2022

Physics is an incredibly complicated and difficult subject to master. Usually, physics problems are application-based which requires both problem-solving skills and critical thinking. Furthermore, physics becomes even more intimidating when complicated formulas are introduced and needed to be solved especially so at a higher level.

Similar to other subjects in school, physics requires effort and resilience. Fortunately, there are ways to improve if one is willing to grind it out. Here is a short simple guide to mastering physics.

1. Summary of the formulas

Flashcards!

In physics, formulas are essential to solving any problem. It can be incredibly tiring and frustrating to constantly sieve through your textbook or notes for the formula you are struggling to recall. By preparing a list of formulas according to topics, you would remove the hassle of rummaging through for formulas. One quick glance and you will find it.

In addition, having a summary of the formula in the form of flashcards can improve your memory of it. Flashcards would compile all the formulas into short and bite-sized information that the brain can absorb more effectively. You will be able to remember all the formulas within the topic in no time!

2. Practice!

Practice!

Practice makes perfect. This saying is especially true for Physics. Problem-solving involving the application of formulas to a variety of scenarios is common in physics. Problem-solving skills are essential in physics. Memorizing formulas and understanding concepts from textbooks does not necessarily translate into results.

A student needs to be exposed to a variety of problems, and form links between problems and the concepts learned in school in order to better understand physics fundamentals. A student also needs to learn how to break down an application-based question into physics fundamentals. When a student can do that, he would be able to solve the majority of questions in an exam paper.

3. Practice… MATH

Physics is intertwined with math. Formulas can be complicated and usually requires algebra manipulation in order to arrive at the answer. Beyond formulas, there are topics in Physics which is essentially an application of math to context. In topics such as kinematics, students would need to calculate the acceleration from a velocity-time graph by solving for its gradient. Hence, ensuring a level of competency in math would contribute to improving your physics.

When all else fails

Physics can be challenging, but taking our advice and doing them diligently would certainly yield results. However, some students may still struggle as they need a senior figure who could relate to them.

Physics and Math tutors are highly sought after for their ability to break down complicated problems into bite-size information. We, at VANTAGE TUTOR, have struggled and walked through a similar path to students when they were students themselves. We understand where you fall short and in hindsight, we also realized how we could have done better for our O level Physics.

What we have achieved together

Currently, as tutors, we don’t want you to walk the same path we did with no one to direct us. We would direct you toward the right path and also set you up for success by going at your pace during class. We will achieve basic mastery before applying to problem-based questions. Furthermore, our tutors have a track record in helping students improve in physics for N level, O level, A level, and even IP! So hesitate no more, contact us today!
