Short writeup:

The Catholic Junior College CA2 exam paper offers a familiar experience for most students, as it covers the common topics taught in JC1 across nearly all Junior Colleges. While this familiarity might be its strength, it’s also the paper’s main weakness.

At first glance, the majority of questions in this paper look like repeats of those found in tutorial worksheets. With only minor changes to the phrasing and format, there are few twists to challenge students. Some themes from this paper will likely appear in promotional exams, but in this case, the questions are phrased in a straightforward, direct manner.

While the paper is predictable and lacks creative questioning, it’s not entirely devoid of insights. The energetics question, for example, will challenge most students, and there are still learning points to be drawn from completing it. However, for diligent students who have consistently practiced, this paper may feel repetitive—many will have attempted these questions multiple times.

This paper is designed for weaker students. It’s ideal for those who have struggled to keep up with the curriculum, as it effectively separates students who have done little to no revision from those who have put in some effort with their tutorials. For students who are just starting to prepare and need to build their foundation, this exam serves as a solid timed practice.
